Distinctionary

A few words we use with a specific meaning inside Magic Waters. Meanings that don't always match how the wider culture uses them. This is where we distinguish between default context to the specific context we play in Magic Waters.

Gaian Gameworld

A set of rules, roles, and gathering places that people opt into together. It gets richer and more alive the more people actually play, instead of calcifying into a fixed institution.

Played with and for Gaia, the living Earth. The aim: leave the land and the people in it more alive than we found them. Regenerative, not just sustainable.

Spaceholding

The practice of staying present, grounded, and attentive, so that someone else, a child or an adult, has real room to feel, try, fail, and grow.

A spaceholder doesn't rescue, fix, or run the show. They stay close enough to keep things safe, and far enough back that the experience still belongs to the person having it.

Children's Culture

The culture children build on their own when they're given real, unstructured time together in a real place: their own games, their own roles, their own rules.

It only shows up when adults stop directing and start protecting the space for it instead.

Village

The wider circle of adults who share responsibility for raising children together, instead of each family carrying it alone. Parents. Mentors. Elders.

A village isn't a metaphor here. It's the actual group of people who show up, week after week.

Initiation

A marked transition that asks something real of a person and changes them. Recognized and supported by the community around them.

It can be as small as a child learning to safely carry and use a knife, or as large as an adult spending four days alone in nature, without food and without equipment, on a vision quest.
